Turbo Kick & PiYo Training- My experience!

I recently went to a weekend event to get certified in Turbo Kick and PiYo, so I can start teaching in gyms and yoga studios.  I went to gyms all the time and loved taking a great class, so I’ve always wondered what it would be like to be a fitness instructor.  But I held myself back from getting trained to teach.  Why?  Because speaking to a class of people, making sure no one gets hurt and getting all the moves right is intimidating and scary.  So, since 2011 is “get out of my comfort zone” year, I figured taking a fitness training should be something I accomplish.

It all hit me at Summit.  I was taking live classes with the trainers and the energy was amazing.  I knew I had teach and I had to teach now.   I had to help more people get fit and healthy so I was determined to find a training for Chalene’s classes because I’m in love with TurboFire, just in case you forgot, and sure enough there was a training coming to my area a month after the Summit.

I knew Turbo Kick was a must and then they were having a PiYo training the next day.  I spoke with the instructor about what PiYo is and decided what the heck.  Being certified in two classes is better than only one.  Plus, PiYo sounded awesome.  It’s a fusion of yoga, pilates, strength and plyometrics with really amazing music.  This is not your moma’s yoga class!

The first day was Turbo Kick and OMG!  It was packed and I was beat after it was over.  My body ached from head to toe but it was an amazing day and I had a blast.  I burned around 3,000 calories!  I met great people and even though I was exhausted by the time we were being tested, I think I got all the moves down (maybe not perfect form but I knew what they were).  Teaching this class is going to be difficult.  There are a ton of things to remember, the pace is super fast, and I have to remember all the combinations and steps while keeping to the beat of the music.  This one will require A LOT of practice and I mean A LOT!

The next day was PiYo.  This class was smaller and it wasn’t as strenuous on the body as the day before.  In the middle of the day we did the class and I fell in love.  This was a flowing, fun, energized class that would give great results.  I knew I had to teach PiYo immediately because no gyms I have been to have anything like this.  When we had to get up and instruct the class on 3 moves, I asked my group if I could just practice…that in no means meant I wanted to instruct the class when we were done practicing.  I did okay and my team said I could do the cueing by myself.  I was nervous at first but when I did it, it just came to me.  And I thought to myself…I can do this!

I’ve been practicing my PiYo every night and am contacting gyms and yoga studios daily.  I’m going to start teaching PiYo and then go to Turbo Kick.  I hoping to set up at least one class in the fall.  I’m excited!

I stepped out of my comfort zone and it was a game changer.  I don’t just want fitness to be a part of my life, I want it to be my life.  So, now comes the challenge, finding a place who is just as excited as I am about this and then getting in front of a class.   It will be stressful, it will take me more out of my comfort zone, but I know once I’m there, the music blaring and the microphone on, I’ll be in the zone and have an amazing class!

If you need to step out of your comfort zone, do it! Yes, it will feel weird and uncomfortable at first, but you will be so happy you did it!  If it was easy, everyone would do it…that’s my new mantra!
